Take home for a BA or TA will be ~ $640.00. Big deal. That's 6 trips to the gas station.

I can't be bought for 6 tanks of gas! It's an insult to my inteligence!

I say we tell this union to shove their $1000.00 flat rate "bonus" by voting no! Else, we'll be right here again next contract.

Has SaskTel offered a signing bonus to date? Just curious.

SGEU got a signing bonus of $1000 but they got all % increases for wages (3.5, 4, 4.5).

Don't think it has anything to do with the company. I think all govt unions were given "a little extra" as a bonus to offset the political damage done from the 0-1-1 we were screwed with last time.

Sorry Lorne, don't think the measly $1000.00 makes up for it.

Do they know how stupid they sound? We have an aggressive early retirement program, the CEO want to cut 1000 jobs, none of us are on contract and it's the cushiest non-technical jobs in town!

The $1000 signing bonus was offered to SGEU as well as other provincial employees going thru contract negotiations. Not sure what you were told, but I was told that this was meant to replace retroactve pay. How clever, this little twist of a signing bonus instead of retoractive pay encourages people to accept the proposal as is. If the contract had been voted down and it took another 6 months to renegotiate the retroactive pay would have been significant compared to the $1000. Kudos to the company on that one and another OOPS award for our bargaining committee (time for another shelving unit maybe).

Why this slap in the face?

We get the same bonus as the zit kid that has just got their first job and has hardly paid any union dues? That should really please the people that have put in years of service.

I also question the skills of the bargaining committee. Every other union that is provincially mandated has received retroactive pay in addition to the signing bonus. Why are we the only union that did not receive retro pay to the date our contract expired? I believe our union bargaining committee and executive do not have the skill set to properly bargain for this membership. I have asked numerous times for documentation and analysis and they can't provide me with anything because nothing was analyzed.
